Turning to the father: Child Fun Day

Cam Connect is a social enterprise and Christian organization registered in Uganda, operating within the hospitality industry. We focus on training, mentoring, and creating job opportunities for youths who have been affected by fatherlessness in their lives. By the grace of God, we are committed to a lifelong journey of discipleship until better opportunities arise for them to embark on a new chapter in their lives.

As part of our ongoing mission, we are running our initiative “Turning to the Father”, which aims to reach wounded children and youth to foster a new generation, focused on rebuilding the bond between children and their parents. We are developing a family-based model that helps children discover the God-given essence of familial relationships, as opposed to relying on orphanages which in some way does not rebuild family bonds for the case of living parents. 

Every end of term, as the children are leaving for holiday, we engage parents and children through debates and fun where we celebrate students advancing to the next academic level. Often, children do not receive the compliments and appreciation they deserve due to the gap between them and their parents, particularly their fathers. We use these events as opportunities for children to express themselves during debates and interactive games while connecting with the parents of other children who attend. This interaction can encourage them to reach out to their fathers, initiating a healing process. 

 For the start we wanted to give city experience to children who had no chance for such experience to catch up with the rest of the children. This fun day is very important to the children because it will break the cycle of stress they have been going through because of being without their father and plan for a better future for them to work hard for their children in the future. To achieve that, we are running different activities and social events such as Child Fun Day.
