Fathering the fatherless of KIRI: providing a balanced education to 30 fatherless kids

We are providing alternative education opportunities to 30 children in this community. Through the Fathers Movement network, FJP (Forum des Jeunes Pères), we offer them father figures, literacy and life skills training, and a strong foundation in Biblical values. Alongside these, we share the Gospel and ground them in Scripture to support their spiritual and personal growth.

KIRI is a neighborhood in Bobo Dioulasso, home to the Bobo people, the area’s predominant autochthonous tribe. Here, 90% of families practice traditional religion, and polygamy is common. As a result, many children grow up without a father’s care. Most never attend school, and those who do rarely receive paternal support, leading many to drop out. Left on their own, they become vulnerable to drugs, alcohol, delinquency, violence, and crime.

The Bobo people make up over 50% of KIRI’s population. More than ten churches exist in the area, yet over 90% of churchgoers belong to other communities. Among the Bobo, more than 70% of Christians are Catholic, and they remain one of the least-reached ethnic groups in the country. These numbers reflect their deep resistance to the Gospel. However, experience has shown that only holistic evangelism—addressing both spiritual and practical needs—can bring lasting change.

Our mission is simple: provide 30 Bobo children with three meals once a week while keeping them in our center for learning and fatherhood interactions. By doing so, we create an opportunity to educate them, equip them with life skills, and give them the care and mentorship they lack.

Kassimir was one of these children. Fatherless and without schooling, he scavenged through garbage for anything he could sell or eat. Eventually, he started stealing iron from construction sites and chickens from farms to survive. When we took him into our center, his life changed drastically. Today, he works on a farm and earns enough to meet his basic needs. His story is just one example of the transformation we seek to bring to the children of KIRI—restoring dignity, hope, and a connection to their heavenly Father through faith in Christ Jesus.

The Impact

  1. 30 children will receive literacy education, life skills training, and fatherly care, bringing stability and healing into their lives.

  2. Their mothers will find peace, knowing their children are safe and have a future beyond the streets or prison.

  3. Over time, the community will experience a decrease in violence and crime.

  4. Churches will grow as both children and their parents come to Christ through the impact of this project.
